Jug Band Sing & Play-A-Long

Bring your voice, a guitar, and a light heart to this group sing-and-play-along in Abbott Square.

Come on down to a Jug Band sing/play-along event led by Peter Thomas and the Trolley Drops. Bring your good humor, your guitars, ukuleles, jugs, kazoos, washboards, banjo, fiddles, etc. and come ready to sing! Songs books with lyrics and chords are available on loan or for sale at the event.

The Trolley Drops are a group of Santa Cruz musicians who play prohibition-era folk-jazz and novelty tunes, and that means Jug Band Music. This genre blends the call and response of gospel with the drive of delta blues and the ruckus sound of New Orleans Jazz. Inspired by bands like the Memphis Jug Band and the Hoosier Hot Shots they perform vocally rich songs with a carefree and infectiously fun flair. The band plays with as few as 4, and as many as 10 members, on instruments including jug, bass, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, washboard, kazoos, slide whistle, trombone, toy piano and more.
