Celebrate a grand opening five years in the making.

Celebrate the ribbon cutting, ball drop, and live music

Count down to the Ribbon Cutting & Ball Drop with Watsonville Taiko from 7:30-8pm. Take part in a Community Drum Circle with Jim Greiner & Friends from 5:30-6pm. Dance to joyful, vibrant Zimbabwean dance music by Sadza Marimba from 6:30-7:30pm and 8:15-9pm. 

Grab your free Abbott Square T-shirt, make party hats, and check out Downtown’s new public plaza and marketplace.

Explore free exhibitions and enjoy a talk about our food history inside the museum

Explore free exhibitions featuring balloon art and powerful stories from local foster youth inside the museum. Participate in the book launch of the new MAH publication, Harvesting Our Heritage: Bite Sized Stories from Santa Cruz History from 6-7:30pm.  Enjoy the permanent History Gallery and Sculpture Garden. See the full list of current exhibitions here.

Enjoy food and drink in Abbott Square

Dig in to the five restaurants and two bars in Abbott Square Market. Grab wood-fired pizza from Pizzeria La Bufala and West African vegan/gluten-free food from Veg on the Edge. Dig into poke bowls from Poke It and oysters, paninis, and lobster rolls from All Aboard. Finish it all off (or begin your night, no shame here) with handmade popsicles from Milk and Wood or a cocktail or beer from Front & Cooper.
